The Minnesota Vikings are now 6-0. They secured their sixth straight victory with a 16-10 win over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday at U.S. Bank Stadium. The result leaves the Vikings as the only undefeated team in the National Football League. San Francisco and Kansas City dropped their remaining unbeaten status earlier this week.
Blake Cashman delivered his most statistically impressive game of the season. The linebacker from Eden Prairie recorded 12 tackles, two sacks, three quarterback hits, and four pass break-ups. His teammates in the locker room cited his all-around presence as a key factor in the defensive performance. Cashman noted that the group is easy to play with and knows their objectives on the field.
Harrison Smith reached a major career milestone during the fourth quarter. He intercepted a pass from Daniel Jones, securing the 40th interception of his career. This achievement places Smith in the same category as Pro Football Hall of Fame members Ronde Barber and Charles Woodson. All three players have at least 20 sacks and 40 interceptions in their career totals.
The defensive strategy relied heavily on pressure. Coordinator Brian Flores blitzed Daniel Jones on 85.2% of his dropbacks. That figure represents the highest blitz rate for a defense in a single game since Next Gen Stats began tracking the data in 2016. The Vikings recorded four sacks in the game, with Cashman accounting for two of them.
Kyler Murray struggled with accuracy for most of the contest. He completed 14 of 24 passes for 150 yards and one touchdown. He threw several deep passes that fell short or were thrown off his back foot. His most effective play came on a 35-yard scramble against man coverage, which set up the game-winning touchdown pass to T.J. Hockenson.
Kicker Will Reichard ended a franchise record streak of 36 consecutive successful field goals. He had a 59-yard attempt blocked by an outstretched arm in the third quarter. Reichard stated he felt good about the kick but believed it may have been too low. He then made a 52-yard field goal on the next drive to extend the lead to 16-10.
Daniel Jones completed 13 of 22 passes for 108 yards, no touchdowns, and one interception. The Vikings defense forced the error that sealed the win, with Smith catching the ball near the 40-yard line. The game marked another win for a team that prioritizes defensive dominance over offensive aesthetics.
